Proboscis Monky 1936 -H1723.1
Martin Johnson made this photograph of an adult male proboscis monkey in British North Borneo on their second trip to that island. The infant proboscis has a cute little snub nose, but as it ages, the nose grows longer in both the male and female but the male nose can be quite spectacular. This image, thought to be Martin Johnson's most circulated photograph, was used by the postal services of the following governments during the years: 1939 North Borneo, 1944 Japanese occupation overprint, 1945 British Military overprint, 1947 British Crown Colony overprint.
