Mbuti Dancers 1931 - E834

The Mbuti (also called Bambuti and Wambuti) pygmies live in the Ituri Forest where the Johnsons filmed them in two areas of the massive forest. This footage was used in "Congorilla," the first of the Johnsons "talking movies" and the first sound film ever completely produced in Africa. The man featured here was named Deelia and he along with his son Salou, the chief of the Mbuti community, were of great assistance to the Johnsons during filming.
