Osa Johnson Inside Osa's Ark Airplane Surrounded by a Pride of Lions 1933 -G1487

The Johnsons set their planes down in familiar lion territory and aimed their cameras to see how the mighty Simba would react to their huge flying metal zebra and giraffe. Osa stayed in the larger zebra-striped S-38 and Martin filmed from her single engine giraffe-spotted S-39. When the lions arrived, Osa popped her head out of the hatch and talked to them. This upset one lion and he jumped at the window. Osa promptly dumped some pancake flour on him and he retreated shaking the disagreeable powder from his coat as he went. Martin caught the whole action on film and when their "Flying Safari" feature "Baboona" opened in 1935, the theater audiences loved it.
