Osa's Ark Landing on Lake 1933 -G1832
The Johnsons pilot, Vern Carstens, spent hours searching for water calm enough for landing before setting Osa's Ark down on Lake Rudolf. Their very first water landing "in the bush" was made at Centre Island, which had three craters with miniature Lake Paradises within each. Vern's only criticism of the Sikorskys during the entire 50,000 mile aerial expedition was that when taking off from the lake the spray covered the windows and he had to fly blind until the windows cleared.
