Watutsi (Tutsi) Men and Drums 1931 - E774

These are the Watutsi (now Tutsi), the cattle-raising people of central Africa who are renowned for their dancing and for their spectacular height, often topping 7 feet. They are descended from the same ancestral group as the Dinka and the Masai and the original Tutsi homeland was thought to be Ethiopia. Around 400 years ago they migrated south to Lake Kivu. Here they established the native kingdoms of Rwanda and Burundi, ruled by a Mwami (king).
